Marketplace Fee Calculator

Pick a platform preset, replace the rates with the ones in your seller centre, and see what actually reaches your account after referral fees, payment processing, fulfilment, subscription and returns.

What the calculator subtracts

The calculator works down the sale price in the order a marketplace does. A referral or commission fee is a percentage of the price. Payment processing is a percentage plus a fixed amount. Per-order charges cover listing, insertion or regulatory fees. The subscription is divided across your monthly orders so it appears per unit. Fulfilment is the per-unit cost of picking, packing and delivery. Advertising is entered as a share of the price, and returns are costed as lost item cost at your return rate.

The result is the net payout, the profit after your own costs, the margin on the sale price, and the break-even price — the price at which the order stops losing money.

Why fixed fees decide cheap products

Percentage fees scale with price; fixed fees do not. A $0.30 payment component is 1% of a $30 sale and 6% of a $5 sale before any commission is added. The same applies to listing and per-order charges, and it is the main reason a product that works at $30 can lose money at $8.

The break-even output makes this visible. If the commission and payment percentages sum to 18%, every extra dollar of price returns 82 cents before fixed costs are covered, so the fixed costs have to be recovered from a much smaller base than they appear to.

Presets are starting points, not quotes

The presets reflect commonly published fee structures — Amazon's $39.99 Professional plan and 8–15% referral range, eBay's ~13.6% final value fee, Etsy's 6.5% transaction and payment charges, Walmart's category-based referral, TikTok Shop's 6–8% range, and Shopify's subscription plus card rate. Categories vary widely, and several platforms have changed rates recently.

Before relying on a result, open your seller centre and replace the commission, payment and fixed figures with your own. The marketplace reference explains what each platform charges and where the exceptions sit.

Frequently asked questions

Are the platform presets exact?

No. They are editable starting points based on published fee structures. Category rates, country rates and promotions change, so enter the figures shown in your seller centre.

Why is my profit lower than the commission percentage suggests?

Because commission is only one deduction. Payment processing, per-order fees, subscription, fulfilment, advertising and returns are added on top, and fixed fees take a larger share of low prices.

Can I compare two marketplaces?

Run the same price and cost through each preset, then replace the presets with real rates. The payout and break-even outputs are directly comparable as long as the currency and cost inputs match.

Does the calculator handle currency conversion?

No. It formats amounts in the currency you choose but does not convert them. Enter costs and prices in the same currency, including any conversion spread in the cost.
