One brand, many fee schedules
Shopee operates as separate local marketplaces. Commission, transaction fees, shipping subsidies and campaign requirements are set per country, and a seller active in several markets is effectively running several businesses. A fee assumption from one market should not be carried into another.
Promotions are central to the buying experience. Sellers are expected to participate in campaigns, vouchers and flash sales, which means the effective selling price is often below the listed price. Model the discounted price, not the list price.
The low-ticket trap
Average order values are low and fixed fees are proportionally large. A product that is profitable at a $30 price in Europe can lose money at a $6 price in Southeast Asia once packing, last-mile delivery and payment costs are counted.
Cross-border sellers usually win with a narrow range of lightweight, high-margin items, or by holding local inventory. Shipping single low-value parcels from another continent rarely survives the math.
Frequently asked questions
What commission does Shopee charge?
It varies by market, category and seller programme, and changes with promotions. Use the rate shown in your local Seller Centre rather than a cross-market average.
Can I sell cross-border on Shopee?
Shopee runs cross-border seller programmes in several markets, but availability and requirements differ by country. Check the programme for the specific market you are targeting.
