Selling into 12 regulated markets

Each entry lists the obligations a remote seller usually meets before a product can be sold lawfully, the labels that have to be on the item or its packaging, and the authority that publishes the rule. Figures and schemes change; every entry carries the date it was checked and links to the source.

Compliance is a set of registrations, not one certificate

A product can pass every safety test and still be unsellable because a registration is missing. Market entry usually combines four different things: a responsible person established in the destination, a conformity mark or certificate for the product category, producer registrations for packaging and electrical or battery waste, and a tax registration for VAT or GST.

The four are administered by different bodies and have different renewal cycles. A seller who buys a test report and stops there often discovers the gap at the first marketplace document check or at the border, when the goods are already paid for and in transit.

The obligations follow the importer, not the marketplace

A marketplace can collect tax and check documents, but it does not become the manufacturer or the importer of record. Product safety, labelling and producer responsibility normally stay with the seller or the entity that places the goods on the market. That is why a listing that passes a platform review can still fail a market-surveillance inspection.

The practical test is simple: whose name and address are on the product and on the customs entry? If the answer is the seller's, the obligations are the seller's. The compliance checker maps the common obligations for a destination and product category, and the entries below explain each market.
